General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories
ISO/IEC 17025 outlines general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories and is an important accreditation of competence and quality.
ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is applicable to all organizations performing laboratory activities, regardless of the number of personnel.
Accreditation is a voluntary, third party-reviewed process. As part of accreditation, a laboratory’s quality management system is thoroughly evaluated on a regular basis to ensure continued technical competence and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025. Laboratory accreditation can only be
granted by an accreditation body, or AB.
• Enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world.
• Helps facilitate cooperation between laboratories and other bodies by generating wider acceptance of results between countries.
• Test reports and certificates can be accepted from one country to another without the need for further testing, which, in turn, improves international trade
